Nancy J. Block is a senior partner and trial attorney with Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP.  Prior to joining MCB, Ms. Block worked for civil defense firms handling general liability, labor law and products liability cases.

 

Her practice encompasses all aspects of medical malpractice through trial. She has successfully defended some of the Firm's largest hospital clients as well as individual physicians in high exposure obstetrical, neurosurgical, gynecology, cardiothoracic, urological, neurological and oncology cases. In addition, Ms. Block handles cases involving dentists, podiatrists, and mental health professionals.

 

Ms. Block has also worked extensively in complex multi-party federal and state litigation involving health care, hepatitis exposure, discrimination, RICO, fraud and false advertising claims. She is well versed in E-discovery from the critical preservation stage to production and advises clients on the most cost-effective ways to manage litigation involving ESI. Ms. Block also leads a team in the production of  E-discovery in large scale litigation for Firm clients. Appreciating the escalating costs in litigating malpractice claims, Ms. Block has also been successful in mediating complex  high-exposure cases and negotiating favorable settlements.

 

Ms. Block regularly participates as a speaker in lectures for continued legal education programs and lectures for health care professionals on medical legal issues, E-discovery and current topics of concern to practitioners and risk managers.

 

Ms. Block received her B.A., cum laude, from the State University of New York Binghamton University in 1992 and her J.D. from Pace University School of Law in 1995. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts.

 

Ms. Block has been invited as a CLE Faculty Speaker at the New York City Bar Association. She has participated as invited faculty in Hofstra University's Annual Trial Training Program and has been selected by the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers by Martindale Hubbell. Ms. Block is a member of the New York Defense Bar, New York City Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association, Essex County Bar Association, and the Association for Healthcare Risk Management of New York (AHRMNY). She is AV rated* by Martindale Hubbell, which is their highest rating.  Ms. Block was selected for inclusion to New York Super Lawyers in 2014 in the areas of Medical Malpractice Defense and Civil Litigation Defense.
